Mayor removed as player in council discipline

The City Council on Wednesday approved updates to its year-old rules on how to punish members for misconduct, with two main tweaks. One, the mayor is no longer involved. Two, the rules now explicitly offer up “removal from office” as potential punishment for misdeeds. City Attorney David Feldman explained that the city’s charter already grants the council the power to oust a member.
