Letters: UT, drug tests, space shuttle

Regarding "UT officials delayed alert on bomb threat" (Page A1, Saturday), the way the University of Texas handled the bomb threat was inexcusable. If you are going to take a threat seriously enough to evacuate the entire campus, should you not give people enough time to do it? I take issue with UT President Bill Powers describing an evacuation, ordered too late to be effective, as prudent. Thank God for someone like Houston defense attorney Lisa Andrews who is not afraid to challenge a vast industry such as the so-called justice system. The AP story "Is racism behind dislike of president?" (Page A5, Sept. 10) is offensive to me and just another attempt to pigeonhole those who are opposed to President Obama's policies and the direction he is trying to lead this country. Regarding "Shuttle will visit Houston en route to LA" (Page B3, Tuesday), we may never know why Houston was snubbed by not being awarded one of the space shuttles. [...] to add additional insult to our city and bring the shuttle Endeavour to Ellington Field for a photo op is beyond reality.
